POSTPARTUM WEIGHT LOSS:
My name is Hannah Bajor the Pregnancy Super Coach with
over twenty years in the field taking care of women before, during
and after their pregnancy.
Well, if you look at average
pregnancy, if your normal weight going into pregnancy, you are going to gain
about 35 pounds weight during your pregnancy. Now, if you are overweight to
start your pregnancy, then we would want you to gain less, but it is not
unusual that many women gain 35 pounds or upward in pregnancy.
So, anything above 35 pounds, guess what, its fat. So,
you have got to work it off to get it off. But on average, this 35-pound
that you developed weight gain in your pregnancy, that was due to the excess
weight of your breast, your body, the womb, all this extra blood volume, the
brown fat that was laid down to give you some energy and help you with
breast feed and immediately postpartum.
So, that normal pregnancy weight itself would normally
fall off in about 6-8 weeks postpartum, but if you gained weight anything
over the 34-35 pounds in your pregnancy, then you have got to work at it to
take it off.
How you do lose weight postpartum. Well, obviously being
healthy, doing a little bit of exercise. That exercise could be just walk
and pushing the baby in a stroller and going around, that will definitely
help you to burn up calories.
Watch what you are eating, eat healthy food postpartum,
especially if you are breastfeeding. You want to eat high protein food, good
quality food so that you have got a good supply of milk and that your milk
is very healthy for your baby, but try to cut back on the fatty foods, high
cholesterol foods.
With all of that said and done, I would advise everyone
to do a little bit of exercise postpartum to strengthen the muscles in the
body. Get your abdomen muscles nice and tight again, and try to lose a
little bit of weight sooner than later.
If you are having a problem and if you are feeling all
upset and depressed and you are not losing enough weight postpartum, then I
would say think too of taking good nutritional supplements.
I actually promote a product, it is mangosteen, aloe vera,
decaffeinated green tea and minerals and it is great for mothers postpartum
and it also gives you that little bit of extra energy in your body so that
you have the energy to workout and lose a little bit more weight.
