HEADACHES DURING PREGNANCY:
So you are pregnant and now you have some
headaches what can you do for them and can you take anything to help
relieve them. Well, before I go into that let me help you understand
why in fact you get headaches associated with pregnancy.
Pregnancy requires the production of a awful lot
of heavy-duty hormones and these hormones themselves create
headaches that are like migraines. So if we look at it in a awful
lot of women that get premenstrual symptoms gets headaches just
before they get their period, same thing with pregnancy.
Another reason for pregnancy headache is the
extra blood volume that a pregnant mom puts on by the time she is 34
weeks. You are required to have an extra 40% blood volume in your
body. This means that every artery and every blood vessel from your
brain down to your little toes has got more blood flowing through
it, the vessels become dilated, they become bigger and it can cause
pressure inside your head.
So what you do if you are experiencing pregnancy
headache. Well, you would look at what normally works for you
outside pregnancy. Someone would find just lying down with cold
compress over the head, just tuning the world out that may help, but
there is many things that you can do to help prevent the headache in
the first place.
Reduce the amount of stress that you have.
Getting yourself a bit more sleep. Making sure that you eat
regularly because if your blood sugar is low that itself can cause
you to create a headache.
A lot of times early in pregnancy woman are
puking their guts up with morning sickness, again that can create
low blood sugar and headaches. So if that is the case for you, make
sure that you have something sweet as far as a juice or drink to
help you control your headache.
Cut down on the amount of caffeine that you
drinking. It is a well known fact that caffeine can create
headaches. If you have been a smoker or you are trying to give up
the drink that also can create headaches for you in early pregnancy.
Is it not advisable to take over-the-counter
medication during pregnancy for headaches. We would advise you to
prevent over the counter medication but what if this headache is
driving you mad and nothing else is working then take something like
Tylenol, something very mild over-the-counter. Not strong
medication. If you are used to taking migraine tablets do not take
anything unless you consult with your doctor because it could create
problem for your baby.
I would recommend if you really are suffering or
if you have a history of headaches and you do not want to have them
develop in your pregnancy then go and see a good homoeopath.
Homeopaths are absolutely brilliant in giving you remedies that are
not medication that are totally safe with pregnancy. But do not self
medicate, do not just go buy remedy for a headache and take them
thinking it is going to work in pregnancy, no. Go to a professional
and get professional advise.
Of course we should say that you should drink
plenty of water in the first place because dehydration can in fact
cause headaches. So make sure you drinking at least 8-10 glass of
water everyday and that is not tea, coffee, that is water every
single day and do not be sitting under the sun for too long. The
more you are informed about all the different things that could
happen to you in your pregnancy then it gives you head start to
prevent complications happening.
