BED REST DURING PREGNANCY:

My name is Hannah Bajor the Pregnancy Super Coach with over twenty years in the field taking care of women before, during and after their pregnancy.

So here you are, you are pregnant and you have been advised to go on bed rest. Well, there is only one reason why you have been advised to go on bed rest. That is because your physician or your midwife or your nurse practitioner whoever is taking care of you during your pregnancy is concerned that you either have a medical problem that could get worse. If you are up running about doing all sorts of stuff they are worried that you could deliver the baby early.

Now, when you are told you have to be on bed rest in pregnancy you have to clarify with your provider does it mean I have to be in bed all day long and I can just get up to go to the bathroom and where is the bathroom located. If the bathroom is you know upstairs and you are downstairs or whatever on rest then that that could be a problem.

You may be advised to be on strict bed rest, which could be for placenta previa. If the placenta is very low in the neck of your womb and there is a risk that you could be hemorrhage and you have already started to have a little bit of bleeding then that would normally mean that you are on strict bed rest. Strict bed rest means you cannot get up and if you did need to get up it would be just to the bathroom that is on the same level as where your bed is.

So bed rest in pregnancy you know can be totally strict bed rest or it can be resting like for a good few hours during the day. Sometimes we are so concerned about your health and the safety of your baby and we know that you are not going to be complaint resting at home. In that situation then many times we would actually have to admit you into the hospital where you would be on strict bed rest. Maybe or may be not allowed to get up and go to the bathroom.

So if you are told to be on bed rest you know it is a serious condition. So please take it easy. If you are advised to be on bed rest then it normally means no sex either. So take it easy, find somebody that it is going to help you and you know and do whatever it is you can do, computer work, you can read books, you can be on the phone, you can do whatever you like if you are on bed rest as long as up walking around.
